Samba wouldn’t start because of a missing library

After outing a stable version of its 376.48 build a few days ago, namely AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.48.1, the custom firmware developer has just rolled out software version 376.48.2, which adds the missing library required by Samba to start properly on RT-N16 routers.

If you have been encountering this issue on this wireless device model, then save and extract the downloadable package, and apply the new build like any other official firmware update.

To successfully complete this process, go to Advanced Settings > Administration > Firmware Upgrade, click the “Browse” button from the “New Firmware File” field, navigate and select the “RT-N16_3.0.0.4_376.48_2.trx” file, and click “Upload.”

At this point, the new firmware is sent to the router, and after the transfer has finished, the installation process will be initiated automatically. Simply allow the device to perform this task and don’t interrupt it in any way.

Bear in mind that terminating the connection between the router and the computer, rebooting/turning off the devices, or closing the browser will lead to an update failure that can cause serious device malfunctions.

Last but not least, you should also know that Merlin’s development intends to boost up the official ASUS firmware. Still, you can switch between official and custom versions whenever you want simply by applying the appropriate package.

That being said, download AsusWrt-Merlin Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.48.2 for RT-N16, take into account all aforementioned aspects, and enjoy your newly improved wireless router.
