Today, FiiO has just made available a new firmware package targeted at its X5 portable music player, namely version 2.0, which includes several changes that improve the unit’s overall performance and stability.

Specifically speaking, the newly-released version adds support for .dsf and .dff audio files, upgrades APE music tracks to 192k/24bit, and improves switching speed between songs. Also, MP3, WMA, OGG, and FLAC decoding and sound quality have been enhanced.

In addition to that, there are now zero gaps between same sample rate songs, the screen will timeout properly while the X5 is connected to a computer, the “Play All” and “Browse Files” UI has been enhanced, and the 88.2kHz sample rate playback issue has been resolved.

Firmware 2.0 also includes support for ID3 tags, album covers, and High-Efficiency advanced audio coding, fixes the left channel noise issue, resolves the FLAC tracks improper starting position, and includes several other resolved bugs.

Moreover, through this fresh update, FiiO adds support for OTG storages powered by Skymedi, Luansheng, Innostor, SiliconGo, Phison, CBM, and Bensheng USB controllers, and intends to include compatibility with USB hard drives as well (in future versions).
