HP Notebook System BIOS 01.31 Rev.A

This package creates files that contain an image of the System BIOS (ROM) for the supported notebook models with a M83 family ROM. This package is used to flash the System ROM on a supported notebook.

This package includes several methods for updating the BIOS version as follows:

- Use the HPBIOSUPDREC Utility to update the BIOS directly in a Microsoft Windows Operating System environment.
- Create a bootable USB Key to update the system BIOS.
- Use System Software Manager (SSM) to update the system BIOS on PCs in a network.

NOTE: To determine the ROM family and ROM date, press F10 on the notebook during startup to run the Setup Utility, and then view File/System Information.

ENHANCEMENTS:

- Provides support for Windows 10.
- Provides a warning message regarding the issue that is caused when Intel Smart Connect Technology is enabled in the F10 BIOS menu on a system that is being upgraded to Windows 10.
- Provides the updated BIOS.
 - Enables password protection for the F9 (boot options) and F12 (network boot) options in the BIOS startup menu.
- Fixes an intermittent issue where the computer is unable to perform a UEFI PXE boot after the system is restarted (soft boot) from the Windows operating system.
- Fixes an issue where the system does not power on properly when Secure Boot and Computrace support are enabled on the system at the same time.

HOW TO USE:
1. Download the file by clicking the Download or Obtain Software button and saving the file to a folder on your hard drive (make a note of the folder where the downloaded file is saved).
2. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. 

About OS Independent BIOS:

Although installing a newer BIOS version might add new features, update various components, or improve the device's usability, this process is very risky, so the upgrade is recommended to be performed only when it is really needed.

In addition to that, this task should be performed by someone who has the knowledge to successfully complete the installation; regular users may fulfill it at their own risk.

When it comes to applying a new version without taking into account the computer's operating system, the most commonly used method to flash the BIOS is by creating a bootable USB or CD containing the update file, and running it from DOS.
