The new update should improve overall sound quality

Well known primarily for its Audio chipsets, Realtek has announced the availability of a new version of its High Definition Audio package, namely 6.0.1.7945, which might include small improvements in terms of stability, performance, as well as sound quality.

Just like the earlier audio packages, the present release is compatible with Microsoft’s Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 operating systems, both 32- and 64-bit variants. Moreover, the driver is also supported on both desktop and notebook configurations.

Therefore, if you intend to upgrade to this release, first of all make sure your system OS is supported, and save and unzip the downloadable archive on an accessible location (such as your desktop).

Now, simply close all programs and processes that might interfere with the upgrade, locate and run the available setup.exe file, and follow all instructions displayed on-screen. Also, don’t forget to give the wizard permission to perform a system reboot so that changes can take effect properly.

As a reminder, please note that although different OSes might also seem valid at first, installing Realtek’s update on other OSes isn’t recommended and should not be performed, as this might lead to malfunctions that would require you to remove it and apply the previous driver.

That said, download Realtek HD Audio Driver 6.0.1.7945, carefully install the new version, perform a restart upon completion, and check our website as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.

Update 10/03: Just now, the same 7945 audio build was spotted on Microsoft's Windows Update Catalog and can be downloaded using the same link. However, the additional files are only compatible with the 64-bit Windows 10 platform (including the Anniversary Update edition).

Update 10/04: A few moments ago, Microsoft's Windows Update Catalog posted two additional 6.0.1.7945 Realtek HD Audio drivers compatible with the 32-bit variants of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Anniversary Update OSes; the files are available via the link above.
