The firmware release adds eye-detection auto focus (AF)

Nikon has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for its Z 6 and Z 7 digital cameras, namely version 2.00, which promises to improve autofocus performance for photos and movies shot under low light, and adds eye-detection AF for use when taking photographs.

In addition to that, the present update reduces the length of time the display turns off (the blackout period), renames the Electronic front-curtain shutter to “Shutter type,” edits and revises help text, and make sure items in My Menu always display correctly.

Moreover, the firmware also removes a bug that caused issues when performing certain operations while HDMI output was in progress, ensures the value selected for maximum sensitivity isn’t exceeded during movie recording, and includes other changes as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

If you encounter these issues and consider an upgrade, save and extract the appropriate package for your OS (available for Mac OS and Windows platforms), transfer the .bin file onto a formatted memory card, and insert it onto the imaging unit.

Afterward, turn the camera on, disable network connection (SETUP MENU > Network), go to SETUP MENU > Firmware version, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the upgrade. Once completed, simply remove and format the memory card, and you’re done.

With this in mind, download Nikon Z 6 Camera Firmware 2.00 or download Nikon Z 7 Camera Firmware 2.00, carefully apply it on your imaging device, and check back with us as often as possible to stay “updated one minute ago.”
