14 DAY TRIAL // Nikon has announced the availability of a new firmware package compatible with its latest Z 50 mirrorless digital camera, namely version 1.10, which adds support for the focus limit switch available on certain Z mount lenses (only the NIKKOR Z 70–200mm f/2.8 VR S for the moment), but the lens Fn2 button is not supported
In addition to that, the 1.10 firmware changes the recording method for movie footage shot in self-portrait mode. Specifically speaking, the camera will film using AF-F (full-time autofocus), regardless of the option selected for autofocus mode.
Even though it’s a small changelog, if you intend to upgrade to this version, first of all, go to Menu > Setup > Firmware Version, and check the unit’s currently installed firmware. To be able to initiate the update process, the unit’s software build must be at most 1.10.
If all is OK, save and run the downloadable file appropriate for your system configuration (available for Mac OS X and Windows platforms), and locate the newly extracted “Firmware” folder.
Afterward, format a memory card using the Z 50 camera, transfer the “firmware” directory on it, power off the imaging unit, and connect the SD card. Now, turn the camera on, go to Firmware Version once more, and follow all instructions displayed on-screen for a complete and successful upgrade.
Moreover, once finished, it would be a good idea to turn off the camera, remove (and format) the SD card, and check the currently installed version once more to ensure that everything is fine.
