14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Nikon has rolled out a new firmware package developed especially for its D500 digital camera model, namely version 1.02, which addresses some errors encountered in certain UHS-II SD memory cards.
Since this isn’t an error arising in the camera, but in the cards themselves, Nikon has decided to implement a workaround that sets the imaging unit to UHS-I mode if a card-side error occurs in UHS-II mode.
When it’s time to switch back to UHS-II mode, you can reboot the D500 unit, or simply wait for the standby timer to restart. However, bear in mind that card-side read errors might still occur after the update, but not so often.
Therefore, if this issue has bothered you in the past and want to upgrade, first check your camera’s current firmware and make sure it’s not either newer or matching the present update, and only afterwards save and run the downloadable archive.
Moreover, know that the producer has provided two files: one for both 32- and 64-bit variants of Windows Vista, 7, 8.1, and 10 operating systems, and the other targeted at Mac OS platforms.
Now, transfer the “D500_0102.bin” file onto a memory card, insert it into the camera, turn the imaging unit on, and go to Setup Menu > Firmware Version, and follow the steps for applying the new file.
