The new releases fix some camera corruptions and hangs

Today, Nikon has rolled out two new firmware packages targeted at its D5000 and COOLPIX S9700 digital cameras, namely versions 1.01 and 1.2, respectively, which promise to fix camera hangs and corruptions in certain situations.

Specifically speaking, the 1.01 update removes the bug that caused the camera to stop responding when an ML-L3 remote control was used to take pictures in live view. However, this issue only occurred with Flash Mode (Red-Eye Reduction) and Image Review (On) settings.

Moving forward, Nikon’s 1.2 firmware manages to fix the issue where, in rare cases, several images after the first became corrupted when a large number of photos were taken. Still, the problem was encountered in rare cases when Points of interest (POI) > Display POI was On.

When it comes to installation, first download and run the appropriate package for your computer OS and device model, and back up all images and important files stored on the camera’s internal memory before initiating an upgrade.

Afterwards, transfer the newly created “firmware” folder onto a formatted memory card, insert it into the camera and turn it on, select Firmware Version, and follow all instructions displayed on-screen for a complete and successful installation.

Last but not least, once finished, it would be a good idea to remove and format the memory card used in this process and check the currently installed firmware in order to make sure it reads the correct version.

That said, download Nikon COOLPIX S9700 Firmware 1.2 or download Nikon D5000 Firmware 1.01, apply it using the steps mentioned above, and check back with us as often as possible to be aware when a newer version is available for your camera.
