Regarding custom releases, AsusWrt-Merlin has continuously developed more and more stable firmware packages for some of ASUS’ top routers, such as its newest 378.56.2 build that includes several improvements and fixes.

Specifically speaking, the present update now allows using a port < 1024 for HTTP and HTTPS WebUI interface, disables debug log for mDNSNetMonitor that gradually filled up RAM, and fixes the OpenVPN server issue in secret key mode.

Moreover, the developer decided to revert memory buffering optimization for ARM devices due to the low amount of free RAM. However, users can always re-enable this option by setting “drop_caches=0” in NVRAM.

In addition to that, build 378.56.2 resolves an issue where routers could crash when pasting SSH key > 2047 characters, adds a temporary fix for NTP failure events, and implements several other changes highlighted in the Release Notes below.

When it comes to supported devices, this release is targeted at ASUS’s RT-AC3200, RT-AC56, RT-AC66, RT-AC68, RT-AC87, and RT-AC88 wireless routers. Do not try to apply it on other devices as this might lead to various malfunctions or render them unusable.

As for installation, the process is the same as any other AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware updates. Just make sure not to interrupt the upgrade while in progress as this can cause serious problems.
