The new update adds support for WAC720 and WAC730 APs

NETGEAR has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its WC9500 wireless controller, namely version 5.5.1.0, which adds support for the WAC720 and WAC730 802.11AC AP models.

In addition to that, the new version introduces Wireless Mode 80211na/ac, channel width 20/40/80 MHz dynamic, and MCS index for VHT rates to the wireless configuration page. Also, it adds a “Roaming Clients” page to Monitor > Clients, which displays L2/L3 roamed users.

Moreover, NETGEAR has set the default 2.4 GHz radio channel width to 20 MHz Static (instead of 20/40 MHz dynamic) and removes profile security “Legacy 802.1x” support, as well as the event tracing logs feature.

If applied, take into account that the controller’s 2.4 GHz multicast rate limiting minimum value will be 15 (instead of 0) while the 5GHz networks will require a min value of 90, instead of earlier allowed 0.

When it comes to installation, first save and extract the firmware archive, log into the WC9500’s dashboard, go to Maintenance > Upgrade > Firmware Upgrade > Local File > Browse, select the .bin file, and wait for the new software to be applied.

However, bear in mind that the controller must be already running NETGEAR WC9500 Wireless Controller Firmware 5.1.0.18; otherwise, the upgrade process won’t work.

Therefore, to benefit from all fixes and improvements included in this release, download NETGEAR WC9500 Firmware 5.5.1.0, apply it on your wireless controller, and constantly check our website to be aware when a newer version is available.
