The new release improves Captive portal customization

Today, NETGEAR has announced the availability of a new firmware package compatible with its WC9500 wireless controller, namely version 5.1.0.18, which fixes the AP370 upgrade issue from 4.x and 5.0.x to 5.1.0.17.

In addition to that, the present release implements improvements in Captive portal customization, and also resolves the UI display bug (Monitoring: AP: Details), which shows incorrect SSID for clients.

However, take into account that NETGEAR’s new update might also experience a few issues, such as inconsistency in L2 and L3 discovery for Access Points. Running this feature multiple times would display all APs.

Moreover, unauthenticated clients can send and receive multicast traffic, while authenticated clients must re-authenticate when roaming from Master Controller managed AP to Save Controller managed AP or vice versa.

In terms of installation, first save and unzip the downloadable package, log into your controller’s administration page, go to Maintenance > Upgrade > Firmware Upgrade section, select Local File, and click the “Browse” button.

Now, navigate and select the newly-extracted .bin file, hit “Apply,” and wait patiently as the device does its job.

Bear in mind that during the installation, do not power off/reboot the device or interrupt the process in any way, as this can lead to various malfunctions or even brick the wireless controller.

That said, download NETGEAR WC9500 Wireless Controller Firmware 5.1.0.18, apply it to your device, and constantly check our website to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
