The update resolves an occasional disconnection problem

NETGEAR has made available a new firmware package developed for its FS728TPv2 switch model, namely version 5.0.2.45, which addresses the CVE-2013-4775 security vulnerability and improves the ICMP echo response time when pinged.

In addition to that, the current update resolves an occasional disconnection issue encountered every 2 to 3 weeks with some IP phones, and removes the bug that caused units to freeze when downloading HTTPS/SSL certificate files.

If applied, firmware 5.0.2.45 will also correct the port security behavior with static MAC, fix the FAN failure events where the LED doesn’t turn off, and resolve the issue where EAP packets are blocked in certain situations.

Last but not least, NETGEAR’s release removes a few bugs that prevented the device view from coming up after updating to Java JRE 7u51 (or newer), or caused the switch to reboot when using SNMP for monitoring.

As for the installation process, first of all, save your current configuration so that you are covered if something wrong happens during the upgrade. The update process should keep original switch settings.

Afterward, save and unzip the downloadable archive, log into your device’s GUI page, go to Maintenance > Download > HTTP File Download > Browse, locate and select the newly-extracted file, and wait for the switch to do its job.

Once the new firmware has been applied, it would be a good idea to reboot your device by going to Maintenance > Reset > Device Reboot, then make sure Reboot Unit No is set to “All,” and click “Apply.”

That being said, download NETGEAR FS728TPv2 Switch Firmware 5.0.2.45, carefully apply it on your device using the above-described steps, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about.
