Today, NETGEAR has made available a new firmware package developed for its R6400 Smart WiFi router, namely version 1.0.1.12, which improves ReadySHARE printer compatibility for HP imaging devices and more.

Specifically speaking, the present update will add admin password protection for ReadySHARE storage, force users to change the admin password, improve port forwarding, as well as fix the issues where computers connected to a LAN port can access the web GUI via the WAN IP address.

In addition to that, the 1.0.1.12 firmware fixes various issues regarding the packet loss when QoS is enabled, the VLAN / Bridge function, vulnerabilities related to password recovery, and OpenVPN connections to the FTP server using Internet Explorer.

Moreover, NETGEAR has also resolved potential security issues regarding long URLs or input fields, removed the ability to download the VPN configuration or debug the log without authentication, as well as implemented various other changes as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

When it comes to installation, first of all, make sure your router isn’t already running the present firmware (or newer), save and extract the downloadable archive, and establish a wired connection between the router and your computer.

Afterwards, simply log into its administration page, go to ADVANCED > Administration > Firmware Upgrade, hit “Browse,” locate and select the .chk file, click the “Upload” button, and wait patiently as the device does its job.

That said, download NETGEAR R6400 Router Firmware 1.0.1.12, apply it on your wireless unit, and check back with us as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
