NETGEAR has made available a new firmware package compatible with its R6250 wireless router, namely version 1.0.4.2, which includes support for VLAN/Bridge group, Airtime Fairness, and much more.

This new update adds an app installation page in the setup wizard, gives users the ability to upgrade firmware through a single click from Genie application, and includes support for IPv6 6th.

In addition to that, the R6250 receives XFS file system compatibility and can put the attached HDD in standby mode when it isn‘t accessed for 30 minutes. Also, the routers now support remote access via genie app, single PPP sessions, and user-defined IPv6 DNS.

Last but not least, firmware 1.0.4.2 will change the NAT idle-timeout settings for TCP sessions from 30 minutes to two hours and four minutes.

Now, to enjoy these new changes, first find out your router’s currently installed firmware version, and make sure it isn’t newer or matching this release. If all is OK, save and unzip the downloadable archive, and establish a wired connection between your R6250 and a computer.

Afterwards, log into its dashboard, go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade, click the “Browse” button, navigate and select the newly unzipped .img file, click “Upload,” and wait as the router does its job.

However, bear in mind that, while upgrading, you mustn’t reboot/power off either the router or the computer, remove the Ethernet cable, or interrupt the process in any way. Doing so might cause various malfunctions that you would rather avoid.

That said, download NETGEAR R6250 Router Firmware 1.0.4.2, apply it, and check our website constantly to be informed when newer versions are available for your device.
