The new firmware implements several security fixes

Linksys has made available a new firmware package targeted at its EA6300 router, namely version 1.1.40.176337, which strengthens the authentication on some web pages, implements numerous security fixes, and adds general bug fixes.

If you consider making use of these changes, save the downloadable .img file, log into the router’s web user interface, and back up all settings that you have changed from the default values. The process shouldn’t erase them, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Afterward, establish a wired connection between your router wireless unit and the computer, go to WebUI > Connectivity > Firmware Update, and hit the “Choose File” button. Now, navigate and select the firmware file, click “Start,” and wait patiently as the device does the job.

However, bear in mind that you mustn’t interrupt this process by powering off/restarting the router, removing its Ethernet/Power cable, or in any other way. Doing so can lead to various malfunctions and can even render the wireless unit unusable.

Last but not least, upon completion, the wizard will request your permission to automatically restart the router so that all changes can take effect properly. After agreeing with the reboot, check the unit’s currently installed firmware and make sure it reads 1.1.40.176337.

That said, download Linksys EA6300 Router Firmware 1.1.40.176337, carefully apply it on your unit, and check our website as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
