Intel has rolled out a new version of its USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver, namely 4.0.4.51, which is compatible with Microsoft’s Windows 7 (both 32- and 64-bit variants), Server 2008 R2, and Small Business Server 2008 platforms.

In terms of valid components, Intel’s update is suitable for its 8, 9, and 100 chipset series, as well as for the C220, C230, and C610 chipset families.

As for changes, version 4.0.4.51 removes bugs that cause ODD USB devices to fail writing data to a disc or the system to hang when closing. However, these issues have only been spotted under Windows PE 32-bit environment.

In addition to that, BSOD 0xD1 and BSOD 0xD5 errors won’t be encountered when connecting/disconnecting USB3.0 Hubs, and the xHCI controller will not report a yellow bang error code 12 anymore.

If you intend to apply this release, besides the obvious USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver, know that Intel’s package also installs USB 3.0 Root Hub, Host Controller Switch, and Monitor drivers.

With this in mind, download and unzip the archive, run the “setup.exe” file, follow all instructions displayed on-screen, and make sure to perform a system reboot once the installation finishes.

That said, download Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver 4.0.4.51, apply it, and enjoy the new improvements. Also, constantly check our website to be aware when a newer version is available.
