The new firmware update improves voice control accuracy

GoPro has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for its HERO8 Black action camera, namely version 1.20, which adds Swedish voice commands, enhances HDR photo quality, and improves image quality tuning.

In addition to that, the current release also adds Cinematic preset, Night Lapse Video and Smart Remote compatibility, and upgrades HyperSmooth 2.0 (new levels of video stabilization including Boost).

Moreover, firmware 1.20 enables horizon leveling with the GoPro app (not available when Auto Low Light is on or when shooting 1080p240 footage), adds Linear digital lens capability to 4K video in all Video and Time Lapse modes, and includes other bug fixes and user interface improvements.

If you want to make use of these changes and consider installing the current release, save and unzip the downloadable archive, transfer the newly-created “UPDATE” folder onto a formatted microSD card, and safely remove it from your computer.

Bear in mind that, when preparing the update card, you mustn’t rename the extracted folder or drag it to a folder on the memory card. Doing so will prevent the installation from being initiated.

Now, make sure the camera is powered off, insert the memory card into the GoPro unit, and turn on the device. Once it boots up, the HERO8 Black will automatically cycle through a number of beeps, reboot once, and if all has been done properly, it should show an “UPDATING” message on its display.

Finally, upon completion, you will be able to read an “UPDATE COMPLETE” message on your camera’s display. Still, if you get a “Camera Update Failed” error, remove and re-insert the unit’s battery, restart the whole process, and hopefully you won’t receive that message again.

With this in mind, download GoPro HERO8 Black Camera Firmware 1.20, follow all the above-described steps to properly apply it on your device, and enjoy the changes this new release brings about.
