14 DAY TRIAL // GoPro has announced the availability of new firmware packages developed for its HERO7 action cameras, namely version 2.0 for the White and Silver editions, as well as release 1.61 for the Black unit, which adds a few bug fixes and usability improvements.
Specifically speaking, the HERO7 Silver and White cameras receive general bug fixes, accuracy improvements regarding the voice command feature, and support for 1080p video resolution (normal speed, slo-mo, and time-lapse recording).
When it comes to the HERO7 Black model, firmware 1.61 enhances live stream stability, improves portrait and landscape detection, removes red line artifacts, and extends battery life when recording in high-frame rates (including 2.7K120, 1080p120, and 1080p240 video).
Moreover, the latter cameras also benefit from a better voice control accuracy, general bug fixes and user interface improvements, as well as a few other enhancements as highlighted in the Release Notes below.
If you want to make use of these changes and consider installing the current release, save and unzip the downloadable archive, transfer the newly-created “UPDATE” folder onto a formatted microSD card, and safely remove it from your computer.
Bear in mind that, when preparing the update card, you mustn’t rename the extracted folder or drag it to a folder on the memory card. Doing so will prevent the installation from being initiated.
Now, make sure you powered off the camera, insert the memory card into the GoPro unit, and turn on the device. Once it boots up, the HERO7 will automatically cycle through some beeps, reboot once, and if all is ok, it should show an “UPDATING” message on its display.
Finally, upon completion, you will be able to read an “UPDATE COMPLETE” message on your camera’s display. Still, if you get a “Camera Update Failed” error, remove and re-insert the unit’s battery, restart the whole process, and hopefully you won’t receive that message again.
