GoPro has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for its HERO5 Black action camera, namely version 1.55, which adds a few bug fixes and usability improvements.

If you want to make use of these changes and consider installing the current release, save and unzip the downloadable archive, transfer the newly-created “UPDATE” folder onto a formatted microSD card, and safely remove it from your computer.

Bear in mind that, when preparing the update card, you mustn’t rename the extracted folder or drag it to a folder on the memory card. Doing so will prevent the installation from being initiated.

Now, make sure the camera is powered off, insert the memory card into the GoPro unit, and turn on the device. Once it boots up, the HERO5 Black will automatically cycle through a number of beeps, reboot once, and if all has been done properly, it should show an “UPDATING” message on its display.

Finally, upon completion, you will be able to read an “UPDATE COMPLETE” message on your camera’s display. Still, if you get a “Camera Update Failed” error, remove and re-insert the unit’s battery, restart the whole process, and hopefully you won’t receive that message again.

With this in mind, download GoPro HERO5 Black Camera Firmware 01.55, follow all above-described steps to properly apply it on your device, and enjoy the changes this new release brings about.
