NVIDIA has provided its SHIELD console users with the download links for the 7.2.1 Recovery OS and Developer Only OS firmware, which includes all changes from the previous SHILED TV Firmware 7.2.0 release, and might improve the devices’ overall performance and stability.

This release will help you install a 7.2.1 software upgrade on NVIDIA’s SHIELD TV 2017, Android TV, and Android TV Pro gaming consoles. Do not try installing these update on any other device as this can lead to severe malfunctions.

As for the flashing process, first of all, make sure that you have installed the latest NVIDIA SHIELD Family ADB USB Driver, and only afterward save the appropriate package for your Android TV unit.

Now, unzip the downloaded archive, connect the SHIELD to your computer, put it into fastboot mode, and run “fastboot oem unlock” and confirm your action to unlock the device’s bootloader. If the console has already been unlocked, the latter step isn’t required anymore.

If all is OK, carefully run the following commands (see below) from the directory where you extracted the firmware package, and patiently wait as the new software is being applied.

Bear in mind that, removing the USB cable, powering off or rebooting either device, or interrupting the installation in any way can lead to various malfunctions, and can even render the device unusable.

Therefore, download the appropriate package for your SHIELD model and configuration using the links below, carefully apply it on your device, and check our website as often as possible to stay “updated one minute ago.”
