NETGEAR has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its FVS318N VPN Firewall, namely version 4.3.4-1, which removes the bugs that made the web interfaces vulnerable to SQL injection, HTTP header injection, and Cross-Site Scripting.

In addition to that, the present update resolves the DHCP relay issues, fixes the problems where users could not browse web pages if traffic meter was disabled, and makes sure IPsec VPN isn’t disconnecting from the client when the IPsec VPN tunnel shows as established.

Moreover, NETGEAR fixes issues with Firewall Rules not working when MAC Filtering is enabled, GUI not displaying L2TP active users, firewall logs containing incomplete log messages, as well as with the maximum number of wireless clients allowed at the same time.

Last but not least, if applied, firmware 4.3.4-1 will make sure logs are displayed properly in the GUI and on Syslog server, fix CVE-2012-5958 and CVE-2012-5959 vulnerabilities, and also implement several other changes as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

However, bear in mind that the present update file might still encounter a few known issues and limitations; thus, make sure to read carefully all the information provided below.

As for the installation procedure, just save and unzip the downloadable archive, reboot the firewall, go to Administration > Settings Backup and Firmware Upgrade > Router Upgrade > Browse, select the .img file, and wait.
