Linksys has outed a new firmware package targeted at its powerful Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Smart Wi-Fi router, namely version 1.1.4 (build 169978) for the EA8500 model, which includes a few new features, as well as various bug fixes.

Specifically speaking, this fresh release resolves IPv6 pass-through issues, implements AllJoyn and AllSeen features, and blocks local web GUI access from WAN port even when firewalls are disabled.

Moreover, in the event an Internet connection problem is encountered, error indication feature on the illuminated Linksys logo is displayed only after the wireless unit is set up to avoid confusion.

As for installing the package, save the downloadable .img file, log into the router’s web user interface, go to Connectivity > Firmware Update, and hit the “Choose File” button. Now, navigate and select the firmware file, click “Start,” and wait patiently as the device does its job.

However, bear in mind that you mustn’t interrupt this process by powering off/restarting the router, removing its Ethernet/Power cable, or in any other way. Doing so can lead to various malfunctions and can even render the wireless unit unusable.

Upon completion, the wizard will request your permission to automatically restart the router so that all changes can take effect properly.

That said, download Linksys EA8500v1 Router Firmware 1.1.4.169978, carefully apply it on your unit, and check our website as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
