EVGA has provided its Intel Z170 chipset-based motherboard users with two new BIOS versions, namely version 1.03 and 1.08, which should improve NVMe device compatibility, add secure boot support, and fix event ID 12 issue after S3 resume.

To be clear about the new versions, the producer has made available build 1.03 suitable for its Z170 Classified-K model, as well as BIOS 1.08 targeted at EVGA’s Z170 Classified, FTW, and Stinger motherboards.

With this in mind, if you want to apply these updates, first load the BIOS factory defaults, as applying a newer version on overclocked settings isn’t recommended, and only afterwards save and extract the proper downloadable package for your board model.

Now, close all programs and processes that might interfere with the upgrade, search and run the “update.bat” file, press “Y” to initiate the installation, and wait for the computer to do its job.

Bear in mind that while flashing the BIOS, you mustn’t turn off/reboot the computer or interrupt the process in any way. Doing so will cause serious device malfunctions, and you might also brick your Z170 motherboard.

Moreover, installing a newer build should be performed only when it specifically implements a change that you can make use of. Also, downgrading the system’s BIOS isn’t recommended at all and might not always be possible.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your EVGA model, download the archive, and update the motherboard’s BIOS version.
