In terms of custom releases, AsusWrt-Merlin has continuously developed more and more firmware packages for some of ASUS’ top routers, such as its newest 384.13.0 that includes several improvements and fixes.

Specifically speaking, the present release updates RT-AX88U (to GPL 384_6210) and Curl (to 7.65.3), adds ChaCha20-Poly1305 support in Strongswan, replaces Nettle with OpenSSL for dnsmasq's DNSSEC validation, and fixes Firmware Update check button behavior.

Moreover, the developer removes hostnames from dhcp_staticlist (moved them to dhcp_hostnames), adds AiMesh Router and node support, resolves External DDNS IP checker, and implements other changes as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

When it comes to compatible routers, this firmware is targeted at ASUS’ RT-AC3100, RT-AC3200, RT-AC5300, RT-AC68, RT-AC86, RT-AC87, RT-AC88, and RT-AX88 wireless device.

As for installation, save and unzip the appropriate archive for your model, establish a wired connection between the router and your computer, and go to Advanced Settings > Administration > Firmware Upgrade.

Now, click on the “Choose File” button near the “New Firmware File” section, select the newly extracted .trx file, hit “Upload,” and wait for your router to do its job. Bear in mind that interrupting this process can result in serious device malfunctions.
