The new update improves read performance on 2TB drives

Crucial has announced the availability of a new firmware package compatible with its MX300 SSD Series (275GB, 525GB, 750GB, 1TB, and 2TB models), namely version M0CR040, which improves large block SEQ read performance on 2TB drives and includes general stability improvements.

In addition to that, the present update also manages to fix a potential command timeout spotted when Thermal Throttling is active, as well as enhance the drive’s error handling capabilities.

If you consider applying firmware M0CR040, take into account that it’s highly recommended that you perform a full system backup; even though data loss or corruptions might never occur, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

With this in mind, if you intend to upgrade to this release, first save the downloadable archive on your desktop, burn its content onto a bootable CD-R drive or USB drive, and power off your computer with the newly-created media inserted.

Now, boot into the CD/USB drive (might require disabling drive passwords or changing the boot order), and wait patiently. The upgrade process will be initiated automatically, and the new firmware will be applied on all compatible drives found on your computer.

Last but not least, once completed, make sure to remove the bootable media to prevent the system from booting again from it.

However, bear in mind that cutting the power or removing the USB/CD drive during the installation, or interrupting this process in any way can lead to serious malfunctions, and can even render the SSD unusable.

That said, download Crucial MX300 SSD Firmware M0CR040, carefully apply it on your computer, and check back with us as often as possible to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
