The new release fixes an issue encountered in certain situations with the Shutter button half-press menu item

Today, Canon has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its EOS-1D X digital camera, namely version 2.0.8, which fixes a certain issue spotted when using the Shutter button half-press menu item.

Specifically speaking, when this item is set to metering start only (configured in C.Fn5: Operation > Custom Controls Menu), it occasionally initiates AutoFocus depending on the time the shutter button is half-pressed.

Therefore, if this bug has bothered you until now and you want to get rid of it, first of all, make sure your camera’s current firmware version isn’t either newer or matching this release, and if all is OK, save and unzip the downloadable archive.

Afterwards, format a memory card using the camera, transfer the “1DX00208.FIR” firmware file onto its root directory, connect it to the imaging unit, and power on the device.

Now, go to Menu > Setup > Firmware Ver.x.x.x, press the “Set” then “OK,” select and confirm the newly extracted .FIR file, agree with the update process, and let the camera do the rest.

When the installation has finished, press “OK,” turn off the camera, and remove its battery for at least 2 seconds. Also, it would be a good idea to remove and format the CF card, and check the current firmware once more to ensure the upgrade has been successful.

That being said, download Canon EOS-1D X Camera Firmware 2.0.8, take into account all the aforementioned aspects, apply the update, and enjoy your newly improved camera.
