AsusWrt-Merlin, well known for its custom software releases, has made available new firmware targeted at some of ASUS’ routers, namely version 380.59 beta 1, which enables SPNEGO support in Samba, and updates Tor to 0.2.7.6.

In addition to that, the update has backported security fixes from OpenWRT to Samba 3.6.25 to address several vulnerabilities and exposures, integrated Network Map into the DHCP reservations page, and added a new factory default reset option for the OpenVPN client/server page.

Moreover, the present firmware merges with 380_2697 GPL that includes beta MU-MIMO support for the RT-AC87U, -AC88U, -AC3100, and -AC5300 routers, as well as IPTV fixes. Also, the developer resolves the WPS that didn’t work on ASUS’ RT-AC3200 model.

Moving forward, Merlin manages to implement a temporary workaround for the Daily/Monthly traffic monitoring feature that showed invalid values on the RT-AC88U, -AC3100, and -AC5300 devices, even with CTF disabled.

If applied, the 380.59 beta 1 firmware will also allow minidlna to refresh an existing database and WAN > NAT Passthrough to determine whether or not to load the NAT helper module.

As for the compatible routers, this update is targeted at ASUS’ RT-AC3100, RT-AC3200, RT-AC5300, RT-AC66, RT-AC68, RT-AC87, and RT-AC88 models. RT-N66 and RT-AC56 devices aren’t supported due to missing GPL components.
