Today, ASUS has rolled out a new firmware package developed for its RT-AC68 (P, R, W, and U variants) and RT-AC1900P wireless routers, namely version 3.0.0.4.380.4164, which resolves several security issues by updating the OpenSSL library (1.0.2j) and Dropbear SSH (2016.74).

In addition to that, the present release fixes other security vulnerabilities regarding XSS and CSRF, adds Brute-force attack protection, and resolves Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer (IE), and Quick Internet Setting Wizard compatibility issues.

Moreover, ASUS’ new build also makes sure NAT issue caused by UPnP media server will be history, Dual-Wan problems in PPPoE, PPTP or L2TP + DHCP environments won’t be encountered, and AiCloud and AP mode interoperability work properly.

If applied, the routers mentioned above will receive an updated NAT Acceleration setting help message, Google DDNS and Docomo L-03D USB dongle support, as well as a few other changes as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

When it comes to installation, first of all, check your router’s current firmware so that it isn’t newer or matching the present version, and if everything is OK, save and unzip the downloadable archive suitable for your device model.

Now, establish a wired connection between the router unit and your computer, log into its administration page, and use the newly extracted .trx file to upgrade the router to the latest firmware version.

Even though this seems easy, bear in mind that interrupting the update process by removing the Ethernet/power cable from either device, closing the web browser, or interrupting the process in any other way will lead to a failure that might cause various malfunctions.

That said, download ASUS RT-AC68 Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.380.4164, take into account all the aspects mentioned above, apply the package, and enjoy the changes this new release brings about.
