ASUS has rolled out a new firmware package targeted at its RT-AC51U router models, namely version 9.0.0.4.380.2928 beta, which fixes various buffer overflow issues, and resolves the malicious site block-related problems.

In addition to that, the update adds support for ASUS Router app and auto dynamic port changing of UPnP server, changes brute-force protection mechanism, modifies access rights to a specific port of UPnP server, and resolves CSRF and XSS vulnerabilities.

Moreover, ASUS also managed to fix issues regarding IPTV GUI, network map device icon, client list name, and view list in the network map, improves IE compatibility, changed Telnet default access interface, and implements several other changes as highlighted in the Release Notes.

Regarding installation, just save and unzip the downloadable archive, establish a wired connection between the router and a computer, and log into its administration page. Afterwards, go to the Firmware Upgrade section, hit “Browse,” navigate and select the newly extracted firmware file, click “Upload,” and wait as the router applies the new firmware.

However, bear in mind that removing the Ethernet/power cable from either device, turning off the router or the computer, or interrupting this process in any way can lead to serious malfunctions.
