Today, Amazon has rolled out a new firmware package targeted at some of its Kindle devices, namely version 5.8.1, which gives users the ability to save the Wi-Fi password to their Amazon account and select which device is allowed to use it automatically.

In addition to that, the present update adds more ways to share books with friends from About This Book, as well as Kindle Unlimited Recommendations that allows you to use Kindle Unlimited for free and see recommended titles.

Last but not least, Amazon has also decided to implement reading progress dots back to the library, thus making it possible to see reading progress and relative book length in the library list view.

Now, to be clear about the compatible devices, firmware 5.8.1 has been made available for Amazon’s 6th Generation Kindle Paperwhite units, its 7th-gen Kindle, Kindle Voyage, and Kindle Paperwhite models, as well as for the producer’s new Kindle Oasis 8th Generation tablet.

When it comes to installation, save the appropriate downloadable .bin file for your tablet, copy it into the device’s internal storage, and monitor the transfer to make sure no problems are encountered.

Afterwards, simply go to Menu > Settings > System Updates (path might differ from a model to another) and follow all instructions displayed on-screen for a complete and successful installation.

Therefore, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your device model name, apply the new firmware on it, and constantly check our website to stay “updated one minute ago.”
