Yamaha has just released new versions of the MTX Editor and firmware for MTX3, MTX5-D, XMV, EXi8, and EXo8. The new package adds features for the aforementioned products, fixes various bugs, and improves the general behavior of the devices.

The installation procedure requires a few extra maneuvers than what I've usually seen with other devices. First of all, as always, download the Yamaha MTX Editor 1.2.1 and firmware 1.2.0 and extract the archive to an accessible location.

The main folder, “mtx_editor121_firm120,” contains the Dante firmware and update manager, MTX editor 1.2.1, and a “firm120” folder with the updates for MTX3, MTX5-D, XMV, EXi8, and EXo8.

Connect your device via Ethernet cable and install the MTX editor.

The next steps are for the Dante models only. Bear with me, though, as the procedure becomes common at one point.

Install the Dante update manager and proceed to setting up the network. The adapter should be set to obtain an IP address automatically on the TCP/IPv4 protocol. To update the Dante firmware, use the manual that came inside the archive for detailed instructions.

After you comple that, start up the MTX Editor and, when the network setup appears, go to the adapter properties and set it to use a specified IP address. Use “192.168.0.253” in the first section and “255.255.255.0” as a value for the Subnet mask, then click “OK.”

Now, turn off the mixer and set the DIP switches 7 and 8 to their “Off” position. Power on the unit and go to MTX Editor, specifically to the “Device Information” tab from the “System” menu. There, select “Update Firmware” and specify the folder containing the file.

Click the “Update” button and be patient for a few minutes. When the installation is complete, the device will restart and then reappear in MTX Editor.

Get the latest releases for Yamaha's mixers, install the one for your product, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
