Western Digital has just rolled out its 4.01.03.421 firmware package developed for My Cloud personal storages, which only fixes an issue regarding Apple Time Machine performance degradation.

Thus, if this problem has bothered you in the past, or simply want your device to be running the latest firmware available, then you should definitely take into account an upgrade.

To do so, first of all save and extract the downloadable archive, go to the device’s user interface by launching WD’s QuickView application and selecting “Dashboard,” and then enter your username and password.

Now, navigate through Settings > Firmware, click on the “Update from File” button, locate and select the newly-unzipped “sq-040103-421-20150217.deb” file, and choose “Ok” at the “Update Firmware” pop-up window in order to start the installation.

Since the task takes a few minutes to complete, while upgrading, make sure not to interrupt this process in any way. Doing so will cause an update failure, which might lead to various device malfunctions or even render the storage unable to boot.

In addition to that, the producer highly recommends not to rename the .deb firmware file, as this will also cause an update failure and other related problems.

Therefore, download WD My Cloud Firmware 04.01.03-421, take into account all aforementioned steps, and upgrade your storage firmware to the latest. Also, check our website as often as possible to be aware when newer versions are available.
