Today, Thecus has made available a new and stable firmware package compatible with several of its NAS servers, namely version 2.05.08 Build 8433, which improves CPU temperature control and 3rd-party module compatibility and includes several other changes.

This new update adds support for 4K native HDD, VAAI UNMAP, VPN and PPTP client/server, disk clone and wipe functions, and Kodi (on certain devices), and also includes compatibility with D-Link’s DXE-810S 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ adapter.

In addition to that, it updates 2efsprogs (1.42.12), Thecus ID wording, Linux kernel (3.10.66), and Xfsprogs (3.2.2), and improves booting process, IE browser and WD60EFRX compatibility, as well as Japanese UI language.

Besides the large number of resolved common vulnerabilities and exposures detailed in the Release Notes below, Thecus’ firmware also fixes issues with SYSLOG, email notification password, jumbo frame, Samba Recycle Bin and share folders, as well as several other problems.

When it comes to installing this release, since the update process might or might not erase some files, first of all make sure to backup all important files stored on your NAS in order to avoid any data loss.

Moreover, bear in mind that it is highly recommended that you don’t turn off the NAS/browser while upgrading, as this can lead to serious malfunctions and might even render the storage unusable.

That being said, download Thecus NAS Firmware 2.05.08.8433 for your specific device model, carefully apply it to your storage, and enjoy the changes this new release brings about.
