The devices targeted by this update are astronomy cameras

The Imaging Source, a German astronomy cameras manufacturer, has recently released a new driver for its GigE (Gigabit Ethernet) products. Unfortunately, though, the release notes are nowhere to be found so feel free to leave a comment with what changes you may notice.

Version 2.0.0.1670 will work with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 on both 32- and 64-bit architectures. However, the minimum system requirements mention at least an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a graphics card with 24- or 32-bit and DirectX 9.0c or higher.

If you're not familiar with the devices, let me introduce you to some of the key features of the DBK 51AG02.AS, one of the best cameras in this series. First of all, it has a resolution of 1600×1200 pixels and, while that may not seem much for a regular camera, for this type of device it is a lot.

Inside the small case (a 2-inch or 5cm cube), there is Sony's ICX274AQ 1/1.8" CCD chip that makes the noise minimal even at long exposure times (up to 60 minutes). You may also find this chip in various other medical or industrial image processing products.
