Drive Speed Test feature has been removed through this update due to inconsistent results

Sound Devices has released a new firmware package developed for its 788T and 788T-SSD audio recorders, namely version 3.01, which brings some interesting changes that improve the devices’ overall performance.

Specifically speaking, the Drive Speed Test feature that was originally optimized for older HDDs, couldn’t provide accurate results with nowadays media, therefore it was removed from the recorder.

Moreover, this firmware also removes the space character from the Take Designator and Scene Name menus, due to various workflow problems that were encountered.

As for some fixes, the CL-9 device is now working properly when the USB keyboard is plugged in (although it might be necessary to adjust the speed setting), and its values are remembered over power cycles.

In addition to that, changing the current scene name now ripples through to the next take if this operation is done while recording, and an “A-H” meter has been added so that the ISO tracks can be monitored more easily.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your audio recorder, get the package, and update the firmware version.
