Sound Devices has outed a new firmware version developed for its PIX 220i and PIX 240i video recorders, namely build 3.51, which includes several changes that improve overall performance and stability.

Specifically speaking, this version allows users to enter and exit menus through the right and left arrow keys of a USB keyboard, improves the DNxHD Codec efficiency at lower bit rates, and raises the timecode overlay accuracy for video outputs.

In addition to that, the Video → Up Conversion menu is now easier to navigate due to the removal of the redundant “Zoom Letterbox” and “Zoom Wide” settings and the AVID AMA-linking bug that was encountered at the end of the clip is resolved.

Moreover, the Pillar Box and Zoom 14:9 settings’ names have been switched so that they describe the correct conversion, and several other system optimizations have been added.

Besides the above-mentioned changes, the PIX 240i unit gets the Timecode/Sync → Sync Out menu simplified as well; the producer has removed the drop frame and non-drop frame options.

If you intend to apply this release, even though this process shouldn’t delete a single file, we recommend you to back up all the important data that is still on the recorder and save the current device settings.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your Sound Devices unit, apply the latest build on your video recorder, and enjoy the benefits of the new firmware version.
