CineAlta F5 and F55 Cameras get an unscheduled firmware for an image correction issue

Sony pushed out an unscheduled firmware for the CineAlta F5 and F55 cameras after users have reported issues regarding “black edge on highlights.” As Sony said, the problem rarely occurs with the previous version of the firmware, only when shooting with S-Log2 or HyperGamma selected.

The fix brought by version 1.03 is promised to be included in the future updates.

Updating the firmware is easy and only requires a bit of patience.

Start by downloading the appropriate update for your model from the links below. Unzip the contents to a freshly formatted SD Card (the format must be made by the camera and not by PC).

Bring up the menu and under the “System” tab select “Version.” Hit “Version UP” to start the update but not before you make sure you have the camera connected to a power source and with a full battery to back it up.

The installation will take a couple of minutes and, when done, will display a notification.

Sony offers customer support for this operation. There are no taxes for the firmware, only for the labor time.

Click one of the links below, download, install and stay “updated one minute ago.”
