Sony has made available a new firmware package developed for its F5 and F55 cameras, namely version 2.1, which adds 4K Live support for the F55 through the upcoming CA-4000 Fiber adapter.

In addition to that, the newly released update also adds Double Speed Drive mode for View Finders, a wind noise cut filter on “Audio Input” menu, an additional Wi-Fi remote control function, and an HD Edge Crop Output option on RAW mode.

So, if you want to enjoy the benefits of this new firmware, expand the downloadable archive, copy the firmware file (.bin format) onto a formatted SD memory card, and insert it into the camera’s slot.

Now, from the camera’s System menu, go to Version → Version Up, select “Execute” at the DC power message, and “Execute” once more at the “Version Upgrade …” dialog box.

At this point, the update process should start, and it will apply the firmware in two phases that will take about 3 and 8 minutes, respectively, so make sure that you don’t interrupt the installation. Doing so could lead to an update failure which might seriously damage the device.

That being said, download Firmware 2.1 for Sony PMW-F5 Camera or download Firmware 2.1 for Sony PMW-F55 Camera, depending on which device you own, extract the archive, and update the firmware to the latest version.
