Oncoming download for the Sony PS Vita console firmware

The first thing users should know about the 1.66 firmware for the Sony Vita is that the new software patches the VHBL (Vita Half-Byte Loader); therefore, those guys out there running the VHBL (and still looking forward to use it) should not update to 1.66.

Apart from this, the Vita firmware 1.66 brings numerous enhancements for generic use and some games also receive functional improvements. One neat update is represented by the addition of a progress bar for app installations, while the Retry and Cancel options have been introduced in the location data search, to add functionality for the scenario when this operation fails.

When using Near, users can update data at any time they desire, provided that they are in the same location, and a direct link to PlayStation Store is being added for new applications in Near. The display time for notification and alerts is now 3 seconds (initially 5). Finally, games like Unit 12 or Gravity Daze and the Near utility are also receiving improvements.

We'll be right back with a download link for the Sony Vita firmware 1.66, but since the software is not official yet, we can offer no guarantee for its functionality.
