Sony has just rolled out a new firmware package developed for its F5 and F55 4K digital cameras, namely version 1.22, which improves the devices’ overall functionality and stability.

Specifically speaking, Sony’s team has managed to fix the HDCAM SR File code issue where frames would not be displayed properly during playback. However, this may manifest in different ways depending on the software application used, but the video essence is fine.

So, if you consider applying this version, copy the firmware file (.bin file format) located within the downloadable archive onto the root folder of an SD card, and insert it into the camera’s card slot.

Now, from the system menu, go to Version → Version Up → Execute, and at the “Version Upgrade VX.XX > V1.22” message (where X.XX is your currently installed version), select “Execute” once more so that the upgrade begins.

An important aspect you should know is that there are two update phases, and during transition, the camera will reboot. The installation process is still running, so make sure you don’t turn off the power or remove the memory card, so no problems are encountered.

That being said, from the links below, follow the one that best describes your Sony digital camera, and keep your device up to date.
