The Windows Driver Kit (WDK) from Microsoft has reached version 7.1.0 and comes with a lot of nifty additions for those into driver development.

The present driver kit is intended for making drivers suitable for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2003.

While this package contains no drivers for one's computer, the driver developers will be able to use a lot of documentation and compilers, together with handy tools, code samples, headers and various libraries. C programming knowledge is mandatory if you plan to start making your own drivers, Microsoft notes.

The WDK is being offered as an ISO package for burning or mounting (GRMWDK_EN_7600_1.ISO) directly from Microsoft's Download Center. A genuine Microsoft operating system is obviously required. For a list of punctual changes in the Windows Driver Kit 7.1.0, you can also check this resource.
