Silicon Power has made available a new firmware package targeted at some of its SSD products, namely version 5.25 compatible with the S60, S70, V60, and V70 solid state drives, which can be applied using the producer’s Field Updater.

Even though Silicon Power doesn’t provide any release notes whatsoever, I assume that through this update the compatible SSDs benefit from various performance or stability improvements. Still, you should apply this firmware version to find out for yourself what the changes really are.

In order to do that, first get and extract the downloadable package and make sure the SSD is connected to your system through a SATA cable (USB hubs are not recommended) and any important data found on the drive is backed up

Now run the “SF_FieldUpdater v1.2 for Windows.exe” (compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7 OSes) from the newly created folder and, after the utility scans and displays all the connected SSDs, select the drives you want to update by checking the box next to the unit’s name.

Bear in mind that, if you desire to update two or more SSDs at once, the signature’s last 5 digits must be identical for all products.

If checked, click on the “Update Firmware…” button, browse to the “SPCC_FW525” folder, select the .vic file that best describes the drive’s signature last 5 digits, and click on the “Open” button. Now confirm the upgrade by clicking the “Proceed” button and wait for the process to complete.

When the update finishes and the green check mark appears on the disk’s icon, click on “Rescan For Drives” to ensure that the installation process has been successful.

That being said, if you consider applying this release, download Silicon Power SSD Firmware 5.25, take into account all the aforementioned aspects, and find out for yourself what changes this present release brings.
