Today, Samsung has made available two new firmware updates targeted at some of its latest solid-state drives, namely version EXT0BB6Q and EXT41B6Q developed for the 840 EVO and 840 EVO mSATA SSD series, respectively.

For all the compatible devices, this newly outed update adds support for some advanced data security features such as TCG, Opal, and IEEE 1667. In addition to that, the 840 EVO series also gets the TurboWrite algorithm optimized.

As for the available packages, while the 840 EVO mSATA benefits only from a zip package that is to be applied using the latest Samsung Magician Software 4.3, the 840 EVO SSD series also has available an ISO file that can be used only via DOS using a bootable CD or DVD.

Therefore, if you consider updating through the Samsung Magician Software, simply install “Samsung_Magician_v43.exe” from within the archive, click on the “Firmware Update” tab, and follow the on-screen instructions.

That being said, download Firmware EXT0BB6Q for Samsung 840 EVO SSD or download Firmware EXT41B6Q for Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD depending on which device you own, apply the firmware, and enjoy the new features that your SSD benefits from.
