14 DAY TRIAL // Pioneer has released a new firmware update targeted at some of its AVIC GPS navigation units, namely version 1.040200 compatible with the AVIC-F60DAB, AVIC-F960BT, AVIC-F960DAB, and AVIC-F860BT devices.
This new update is required by the AVIC units in order to be able to use the producer’s naviextras website, even though the portal isn’t 100% finished yet.
In addition to that, if firmware version 1.040200 is applied, the GPS navigations will be able to switch to the second camera using the “Map” button, and it will also benefit from several minor fixes.
When it comes to applying this release, first check the currently installed version by going to Home → Settings → System → System Information → Firmware Information, and make sure it isn’t either newer or matching this release.
If all is ok, save the downloadable archive on your computer (you might want to use a download manager as the filesize is a little over 540MB), and extract and copy the “AVIC5000NEX” folder onto a formatted USB drive or SD card.
Now, connect the storage device to the AVIC unit, go to Home → Settings → System → System Information → Firmware Update, click “Continue” to allow the navigation to search for a new firmware on the removable storage, and select “Start” in order to initiate the upgrade process.
Bear in mind that during the installation you mustn’t cut the power or use the unit’s touch panel, as this can cause an update failure which might damage your GPS device.
Once the AVIC has successfully updated and the “Update Complete!” message is displayed, simply press “Home” to reboot the device, and you’re done.
