Pentax has just published a new firmware update for their Q camera. Version 1.11 will improve contrast AF performance and stability for general performance.

Updating the firmware will return your camera’s settings to default, so Pentax recommends (as we do, as well) that you make a “memorandum” before you start the installation procedure.

To update, you will need a formatted SD memory card on which you will unzip the firmware. To do so, simply double click the “q_v111.exe” executable downloaded from the link below and browse for the removable drive.

After this is done, you will see a file named “fwdc601p.bin” on the SD card. That's the actual update your camera will soon receive.

Remove the card from the computer and plug it into the camera. Remember to fully charge the battery as running out of power during the installation will brick your device.

In the menu, go to “Set-up 3” screen and then to “Firmware Version Info.” Press the four-way controller right to display update screen. Whenever you're ready, select “Start” and hit the OK button.

After the installation is complete, the camera will automatically power off. Remove the card or format it with the camera for further usage.
