Panasonic has just announced that its LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 digital camera and the DMC-GH4 interchangeable lens system will benefit from new firmware versions somewhere in early October 2014.

The new updates should add a new “4K Photo” mode to the devices that allows them to record 4K videos just for capturing a frame which will be saved as a photo later on. Also, besides the 16:9 aspect ratio, 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1 values will also be available.

In addition to that, marker points can be used while recording the 4K video, which can later be accessed during playback in order to capture the desired photo. Moreover, the image saved using the “4K Photo” option will hold the 4K video’s Exif information as well.

Both cameras will also receive the ability to use 4K/23.98p/100Mbps mode in MP4 video recording, and the DMC-FZ1000 device alone will benefit from a new “Shutter Tone” option in the “BEEP” menu.

When it comes to the DMC-GH4 alone, besides the aforementioned changes, this product also gets a Loop Recording function that allows the camera to keep recording while deleting the old footage automatically.

Moreover, the upper limit of the ISO sensitivity can be adjusted, the emission amount of flash light can be set, and a remote shooting feature via USB tethering will be available.

However, these changes can be made only by upgrading the cameras to their latest firmware. Until then, constantly check our website in order to be the first to know when the new versions are available.
