Today, Onkyo has announced the availability of a new firmware developed for one of its Blu-ray players, namely version 1.83.04 compatible with the BD-SP809 device, which includes compatibility improvements with specific DVD discs.

If you intend to upgrade to this firmware version, you should know there are two different downloadable packages for each European, Russian, and Asian models.

Therefore, go to HOME Menu → Settings → Others → Product Info, and if the device’s version number is followed by “*” then the player will require the (A) variant of this release; otherwise, download and install the (B) package.

The upgrade can be performed using a blank disk, a formatted USB drive, or through the network (this method will take longer to complete). So, get the appropriate software for your device’s characteristics, copy the firmware onto an empty USB drive, and insert it into the player.

Now, go to Settings → Others → Software Update → USB, select “Yes” at the next dialog, wait for the new firmware to be recognized, and choose “Yes” once more when the update has been found.

At this point, the player will initiate the upgrade process, which takes between 30 to 40 minutes to complete, so don’t turn off the device, use its buttons, or remove the power cable – doing so will terminate the update and might also cause the unit to malfunction.

After the upgrade finishes and the BD-SP809 restarts, remove the USB drive and check the currently installed version to ensure the installation has been successful.

That being said, download Onkyo BD-SP809 Blu-ray Player Firmware 1.83.04, take into account all aforementioned steps, apply the latest update, and enjoy your newly-improved player.
