Today, Olympus has made available two new firmware updates targeted at its E-M1 and E-M5 Mark II digital cameras, namely versions 3.1 and 1.2, respectively, which add support for Underwater function to Picture Mode.

In addition to that, besides the aforementioned feature, Olympus’ E-M1 imaging unit also receives compatibility with a “Live View Boost 2” function.

When it comes to installation, first of all, you must make sure that your currently installed firmware version isn’t either newer or matching the present release.

If all is OK, get the appropriate downloadable package for your device model and system OS (available for both Mac and Windows platforms), make sure that your computer has access to the Internet, remove any memory card connected to the camera, and run the saved file.

Now connect the digital camera to your computer, hit next, and wait for the updater to search for its latest firmware. When found, press “Update,” then select “OK,” agree with the upgrade process, and wait for the firmware to be transferred and applied to your imaging device.

However, keep in mind that, when the installation is completed, Olympus’ camera will show an “OK” message on its display. At this point you must click “Next” and “Close,” and afterwards remove the USB cable from your unit.

With this in mind, download Olympus E-M1 Firmware 3.1 or download Olympus E-M5 Mark II Firmware 1.2 depending on which device you own, take into account all the above aspects, and apply the new firmware on your digital camera.
