OUYA has announced the availability of a new firmware package developed for its game console, namely version 1.2.1084 (Chupacabra Hotfix 2), which includes various fixes and brings new ODK APIs.

The producer intends to make sure that the developers’ games work properly on all its supported devices. To fulfill this purpose, OUYA adds an input remapping system that allows users to create games that will be compatible with various controller hardware.

In addition to that, once developers start using this new feature (currently supported by Java, Unity, and MonoGame engines), OUYA will have the ability to enlarge the set of supported controllers within future updates.

If this new version is applied, the confusion regarding button naming scheme that differs from one controller to another is resolved through an API that will recognize the names and images dynamically.

Moreover, through this release, most games won’t need to recognize the device they are running on and, when this check is required, the new firmware does this for you.

Since an update failure might cause the device to malfunction, applying this version is recommended to be performed in a steady power environment so that no power disruptions interfere with the installation process.

That being said, download OUYA Game Console Firmware 1.2.1084 Chupacabra Hotfix 2, apply the package, and enjoy your newly-updated device.
