OCZ delivers new firmware for the Octane S2 series solid state drives, and has also updated the Toolbox Firmware utility needed for both software upgrades and inspection.

The OCZ Toolbox Firmware Updater utility reaches now version 3.02.11 and comes with the same features contained in other previous releases. When trying to update the firmware of an Octane SSD, make sure Windows is not running off the very drive whose software you're going to update.

At the same time, if the said SSD is set as a primary system drive (such as “C:”), you won't be able to upgrade. In order to change the system software of an Octane SSD, you must run Windows from another drive and only then use the OCZ Toolbox Firmware Updater.

Firmware 4.14 brings enhanced stability with AMD and Apple-based systems. After issues reported by AMD and Apple users, OCZ hopes to have these problems fixed. The current firmware also comes with fixes for some corner case errors reported with firmware downloads. Rare as they were, data corruption reports and S2/S4 cycling errors seem to have been mended in firmware 4.14.

Finally, your OCZ Octane S2 SSDs will spot increased Anvil test bench compatibility after installing the newest firmware. Like with any firmware update, it is strongly advised to back up all the important data from the drive whose system software you plan to upgrade.
